Francis Turbine

Function

Bei der Francis-Turbine wird Wasser in einem spiralförmigen Kanal zum Flügelrad geführt. Die Schaufeln passen sich an die Strömungsgeschwindigkeit und die Wasserdruckänderungen an, die z.B. durch atmosphärische Bedingungen und Jahreszeiten entstehen. Das Wasser bewegt die gekrümmten Schaufeln des Laufrads, die mit dem Generator verbunden sind. Die Francis-Turbine erfordert eine aufwändige Konstruktion, bietet jedoch maximale Leistung.

Field of application

The Francis turbine is ideal for heads from 10 to 100 metres with medium water flow.

Pelton Turbine

Function

The Pelton runner is similar to a classic water wheel. Water hits the centre of two half-shells (buckets) and is deflected through almost 180°. This converts all of the water’s kinetic energy into mechanical energy, which is used to generate electricity.

Field of application

Pelton turbines are suitable for high heads of 80 to 1,000 metres and small volumes of water. An advantage of this type of turbine is that each nozzle can be controlled separately. This makes it easy to compensate for fluctuations in water flow.

Kaplan Turbine

Function

The Kaplan turbine is usually built with a vertical axis to make best use of the top-down flow. The incoming water is regulated by the guide channel and directed by the adjustable guide vanes onto the axially arranged adjustable impeller blades, which transfer the energy to the generator. Blade adjustment ensures maximum efficiency under different operating conditions.

Field of application

This turbine is ideal for low heads (from 1m to about 15m) and large volumes of water.

Installation and commissioning

Our experienced team guarantees on-time delivery and accurate on-site installation. All components of the hydropower plant are pre-assembled at our manufacturing facility in Sexten. Prior to delivery, all components undergo factory acceptance testing by our own quality inspectors to the strictest criteria.

Using their technical expertise, our qualified staff ensure smooth installation and commissioning on site. We implement individual hydroelectric projects that best meet our customers’ requirements.

Maintenance, remote access and upgrades

After the successful commissioning of the hydropower plant, we continue to provide our services:

Control and automation systems

Turbine control and automation is critical for efficient performance and operational control. We offer advanced solutions that enable you to monitor and control your turbines accurately. Together with our long-standing partners, we ensure that the switchgear is designed and constructed in accordance with standards. This ensures that the power generated is safely transferred and correctly synchronised to the grid or consumed in island mode.

Hydraulic steel structures

As an additional service, we manufacture steel hydraulic structures for the hydropower plant in accordance with EN 1090 (EXC 2). These are used to protect the turbine and control the water flow.

We design, manufacture, supply and install:

  • Coarse screens
  • Fine screens in all possible bar spacings; horizontal and vertical
  • Cleaning systems for screens – horizontal and vertical
  • Slide or roll gates with electric or hydraulic drives
  • Weir gates
  • Fish ladders and fish passes
  • Many other custom items

We also replace individual elements in existing power plants and offer various maintenance packages that significantly improve the efficiency and environmental performance of the plant.
